Nothing is built before somebody orders it. Every mattress starts as wire on a spool and ends as a roll in a box, and both of those happen after you have chosen your size.
The core
Seven zones,
two wire gauges.
The spring unit is wound from steel wire on the factory floor, then each spring is sealed into its own fabric pocket so it can move without dragging its neighbours with it.
Ours is arranged in seven zones along the length of the bed. Heavier two millimetre wire sits under the hips and shoulders where load concentrates. One point eight millimetre runs everywhere else. That is why the bed holds a spine level rather than letting the heaviest part of a body sink first.

Cover
400 gram cool-knit
Knitted rather than laminated, so air moves through the surface instead of being held against it. Zipped the whole way round.
Comfort
Gel-infused memory foam
Twenty eight density, the highest in the build. Gel infusion is what lets it contour without holding heat.
Airflow
Wave-profile foam
Cut into a wave rather than left flat, so channels run through the middle of the comfort stack and warmth has somewhere to go.
Support
Pocket spring steel
Two wire gauges, 1.8 and 2.0 millimetre, wound and pocketed in house. Seven zones along the bed.
Edge
Encased perimeter foam
Thirty five density, seven centimetres, wrapped around the entire spring unit so the edge holds when you sit on it.
Base
Anti-slip underside
Gripped rather than plain, so the mattress stays where it is put on slats or a divan.

The unit is built
Springs are wound, pocketed and joined into a single unit at your size. Not cut down from a larger one - built to the dimensions you ordered.
The perimeter is encased
Thirty five density foam is fitted around the whole spring unit, seven centimetres deep, so the edge behaves like the middle.
The comfort layer is built separately
Two densities bonded into one ten centimetre layer, medium on one face and medium firm on the other. It is made as its own product, because it has to come out again.
The stack is assembled
Gel memory foam, comfort foam and wave-profile foam are laid over the comfort layer, and the whole assembly is placed on the core.
The cover is closed
Cool-knit cover fitted, tape edge finished, zip run the full way round so the comfort layer can be reached without tools.
Then it is rolled
Compressed, so it
reaches the room.
A thirty five centimetre mattress does not go up a staircase in one piece. Compression is how it gets there, and it is not how we leave it.
Rolled, boxed, and unrolled again on your bed by the people who deliver it. It reaches most of its height within hours and settles fully over the first night.
Every piece of packaging leaves with them. So does your old mattress.
