Looking after your mattress
You already bought the bed. This is the part that decides how long it stays the bed you bought.

Almost everything that shortens a mattress
is moisture, uneven loading, or a base that stopped being flat.
In the first fortnight
Let it breathe for a few hours before the bedding goes on.
Expect it to feel wrong at first. It is not the mattress you adapted to, and your body notices the difference before it notices the improvement. Two weeks is a fair minimum before judging anything.

Rotate. Do not flip.
Head to foot, every three months. Your weight goes through a small area, and rotating moves that area so the surface wears evenly instead of forming a channel.
Do not turn the mattress over. Sevencore is beneath and the comfort layer is above, each doing a different job in a fixed order.
Turning the comfort layer itself is different. That is how you change between the two faces.
Spills
- BlotDo not rub.
Rubbing moves liquid sideways and pushes it further down. - Cold waterNever hot.
Heat sets protein stains rather than lifting them. - Work inwardFrom the outside of the mark.
So you are not spreading the edge of it. - Dry it fullyBefore the bedding goes back.
A damp patch under a duvet is how a small spill becomes a permanent one. - Never soak itWater that reaches the layers cannot be got out.
And water damage is not wear.
A protector you never wash is worse than no protector
A body loses a meaningful amount of moisture every night and most of it goes downward. Moisture is what breaks foam down fastest and what makes a mattress smell after a few years.
A protector catches it. An unwashed protector holds it against the mattress instead of away from it. Every few weeks is enough.
Check the base when the mattress is off
A mattress can only hold the shape its base allows. Slats with gaps wider than about seven centimetres let it drop between them, and the dip that creates looks exactly like a mattress failure.
It takes a minute during rotation, and it is the most common cause of a problem blamed on the wrong thing.
The outcome
Change the comfort layer around year five, and again around year ten
The comfort layer shapes to you and changes with use. Sevencore beneath it is built to a different timescale entirely.
- Years five and tenA fresh comfort layer.
The cover opens, the layer lifts out, the new one goes in. It takes minutes. - The old oneYours to keep.
It makes a spare for a guest room. - What it costs£299 after the first year.
In the first year a change of feel is Adjust to Desire.
